What is Success?

I'm going through my piles of paperwork and finally getting around to filing or discarding the pages I have hung onto for whatever reason for so long.

I found the following quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson that I'd like to share with you. To know me is to know why the quote means so much to me.

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a little bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden path, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one person has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

I really like that quote!

I can relate to the cleaning through things issue. Next Tuesday Child Protective Services will descend on my home to do a 'Home Study'. My family is one of three being considered for placement (probably permanent) of my great-niece who is in the custody of CPS.

Needless to say I'm currently in the process of doing both Spring AND Fall cleaning.....probably several years' worth!

Thank you! Thinking about it, I had to have copied that quote back in the late 70s or early 80s from the paper and the faded highlighter.

Nettie, I can't think of anyone that I'd rather take care of my young 'uns, if'n I had any that young that needed taking care of, than you. If you need references, please feel free to call on me. You did a pretty good job of raising me, if I must say so myself. And I'm still not done learning from you.

How old is your great-niece? OK, your good-niece. Maybe your OK-niece. (terrible Firefly reference, there.)

As for cleaning, you have my condolences. I know how I detest getting things in order, but if anyone can do it, you surely can. I'm still amazed at all the stuff you can get done.

As for me, I'm going to have to get out the leaf blower and blow off the roof and gutters today. The tree out front dropped half its leaves because of the cold. But with no wind to clear my roof, I'm going to have to do it myself.

Good Luck with CPS. I really hope things turn out well for your great-niece and your family.

Boy....you sure do have a way of putting a smile on my face! Next time I'm feeling down I know where to go.

Aleah was born the end of February so that makes her about 8 1/2 months old. She's spent all but 11 weeks of her short life in foster care. It's going to be a battle (the non-related foster mother is making noises of wanting to keep her) but we're going to give it our best shot!

You be careful up there on that roof!!!

Aleah, what a nice name!

See, I learned something today. I had this music in my head associated with the name Aleah, so I went looking. Found out the song I was hearing in my head was Aleah by Donny Iris & The Cruisers, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pwq0VbGlazw. I wonder if I have any credit out at iTunes.

End of February, she's a Pisces like me! Two natures, analytical and emotional. Good luck!

Nettie, it's always been a problem for me; I don't say nice things about people unless I mean 'em. You just make it so easy to mean 'em. And doesn't that qualify as "to find the best in others?"

Ah Leah is what they were saying in that song???? I never could figure that out. LOL

Ok...master bedroom is finished..I'm off to tackle the sewing room.

How are the leaves coming?

I'll get a round2it tomorrow. I stopped by the Men's Mall to pick up some 2" PVC plumbing pipe and some fittings to build an extension so I can blow my gutters out from the ground. That way, I can blow them out more often than waiting until I can climb up there. It should also be safer.

I also checked out stock tanks to see if a recovering dog could swim in one that I can get through the doors. I think it could work....

From the sound of the song, it sounds like Aleah, but is in reality Ah! Leah! according to the lyrics.

Thanks for your help and planning with my monster ;-)! You know, if she were 10 or 12+ years old, I probably would have said "make her comfortable" and not gone through all of this, but she's only 2.5, so we have a long road ahead of us.... I appreciate your help ;-)!

Have you considered using the leaf blower for all the paperwork you are attempting to discard? Just a thought.

A leaf blower, no. Too hard to pick up all the paper that needs to be shredded after blowing it around. And I do shred a lot. Remember, I'm a privacy nut!! But it was a good thought.

BTW, Nettie, WELL????? It's the day after the visit from CPS, I think. Will we be seeing more pictures posted, or don't you want to talk about it?
